Abstract

The diversity of approaches to speech therapy as a scientific and practical discipline results from its interdisciplinarity. It is visible in the approach to the structure of speech disorders, in which one can distinguish linguistic factors (domain of linguistics), biological (domain of medicine), psychological (domain of psychology) and social (domain of pedagogy). In our approach, social speech therapy is a branch of speech therapy dealing with the social functioning of people with speech disorders. It focuses on the individual, not on their language dysfunction. Social speech therapy is included in the trend of social pedagogy, psychology and medicine, while maintaining its specificity. It focuses on the social functioning of youth and adults with speech disorders and their families (family speech therapy). The article attempts to discuss the condition of speech therapy in the light of contemporary challenges and near-term forecasts of civilization development.
