Abstract

The article presents a hypothesis of transformations of the eastern façade of the Cistercian abbey’s enclosure in Ląd. It was developed on the basis of architectural research conducted in 2019 by a team of the Faculty of Architecture of the Wrocław University of Technology headed by the author.

There were four main phases in the façade’s transformations. In the early Gothic, a two-storey high wall was built, later it was raised, and the sacristy extension was added. The next gothic phase was the extension of the façade to the south, and the baroque one - raising and changing the decor. The article concludes with the statement that many issues related to the dating of the façade in particular require further research.
