„Za vašu i našu slobodu”. Croatian volunteers in the Polish-Russian guerrilla war of 1863–1864

Resumen

The article concerns the activity of Croatian volunteers in the Polish national uprising known as the January Uprising (1863-1864). The participation of Croatian newcomers is illustrated by three selected examples: 1) Petar Schmeiss – the leader of the partisan group, commanding in the largest battle of Nothern Mazovia/the insurgent Płock voivodeship (Chromakowo). 2)  Grgur Saint Zegga – company commander in the unit of Karol Kalita-Rebajło  in the insurgent Krakow voivodeship, thanks  to  his  heroic  attitude, paid  with  the loss  of  life, the insurgents won the skirmish near Merzwin. 3) An anonymous participant in the unsuccessful international expedition of Teofil Łapiński from London to Palanga, located on the Lithuanian coast.
