Does the soul of a deceased person have any relationship with the body when the body has not yet been buried? Staying near a body not yet buried has led to the development of the traditional (extra-liturgical) practice of singing prayers for the deceased. These sung prayers sometimes contain intriguing content. For example, there is a conviction in them about the constant presence of the deceased (the soul of the deceased person) in the proximity of the body, which, for example, constantly „hears” and „feels.” A belief in the causal power of this prayer has also developed. It should not be performed on other occasions. The final (church) burial ends this transitional period. This text is based on an analysis of the texts of recordings of funeral prayers collected in the Kurpie region by the Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
