Abstract

One of the most important television genres is considered to be the TV series. By providing information about the surrounding reality, it can be considered as a “social fact” and its consumption is becoming an element of everyday practices. This approach is also reflected in the description of TV series using the metaphor of a “media mirror of reality”. A particular genre of television series in Japan, also known as asadora (morning drama), is considered alike. The purpose of the article is to introduce the history of Japanese morning dramas, their characteristics, the functions they have. It also represents an attempt to define this genre as something different from soap opera, sitcom or domestic telesaga. The points of reference are the works of Polish researchers of television series and the methodology they used. The work concludes with a presentation of the morning drama Chiritotechin, which can be considered a model example of the presented genre.
