Abstract

The article formulates the thesis that mature forms of meaningful life, or at least the feeling that life has a meaning, are not possible without equally mature forms of personal and community nature. Its creation assumes the operation of many necessary developmental dynamisms of the personality of culture and community. They support the ability to transcend individual and social particularisms, support the construction of prospective life strategy goals and integrate often contradictory identifications multiplied by contemporary societies. Identity, however, has a multi-level character, it can be a phenomenon of ritual, authoritarian and closed mental and social structures. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize and practically support revaluations in the lives of individuals and communities towards the ability to build a reflective, chosen identity, using the resources of the cultural heritage of both one's own and other cultures. Such an identity is not a state, but a process, it does not classify so much as it motivates, it does not reproduce so much as it inspires, it opens to a multidimensional invitation to development.
