Abstract

The article analyzes participation in costume play from the perspective of its potential to construct an individual's sense of happiness. It introduces sociological concepts of understanding happiness in an individual and group context. The author, defining cosplay, points to discrepancies in the understanding of these practices by different people involved (cosplayers) and researchers. After discussing methodological issues, she presents the results of her own research that reveals the potential of cosplay in shaping an individual's subjective well-being.
