Abstract

The role of green spaces in cities is growing in the context of increasing urbanization, climate change, and increasing urban incentives. Many recent conflicts in Poland between local authorities and residents have concerned public green areas. For the effective management of these areas, it is crucial to gather both natural and social knowledge about them. The study presented in this thesis shows that while cities increasingly recognise the need for ecological diagnoses of green spaces, the benefits of social usage diagnoses are almost completely unrecognised.
