The material and economic situation of households in Poland and the importance of introducing the program „Family 500 plus” in the context of a comprehensive pro-family social policy

Dariusz Prokopowicz

Abstract

Families in Poland lead households with a much lower disposable income compared with families in the countries of Western Europe. The level of consumption of families in Poland in recent years has been appro-aching the EU average, while the level of financial savings surplus is still five times lower than the average. In Poland, for many years a relatively lowest income was reached by large families. Similar relationships are formed in the field of housing and household equipment with durable goods. The program „Family 500 plus” launched in April 2016 has significantly reduced the scale of this disadvantageous social and economic relation, hitherto low profitability in large families. This program should also work positively on the strategic socio-economic objective which is reducing the scale of demographic ageing of the population and limiting a possibility of insolvency announcement of the Social Insurance participatory pension system that could happen in the coming decades.
