Abstract

This study examines whether pedagogy students’ perceived quality of life in relation to the war in Ukraine differed between 2022 and 2024. Two independent CAWI surveys were conducted among students at the University of Rzeszów and Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, involving 351 participants in 2022 and 330 participants in 2024. Respondents assessed twelve life domains and overall life satisfaction using five-point Likert scales and answered questions concerning personal and national security and attitudes towards the war. The data were analysed using chi-square tests, the Mann–Whitney U test, and measures of association. In both surveys, most current and prospective quality-of-life assessments ranged from neutral to moderately positive. Economic circumstances and personal security received the lowest ratings, whereas relationships with family and friends received the highest. Most assessments did not differ significantly between the survey years. Compared with the 2022 sample, respondents in 2024 rated their current leisure satisfaction and overall life satisfaction, as well as their prospective economic circumstances, health, and fitness, slightly more positively. The perceived impact of Russia–Ukraine relations on respondents’ lives remained rather negative, while assessments of Poland’s security remained neutral. The findings suggest relative stability in students’ perceived quality of life during the first two years of the full-scale war, despite continuing security concerns. Because the surveys involved independent, predominantly female samples, the results should be interpreted as repeated cross-sectional comparisons rather than as individual change over time. The findings support the need for psychological and crisis-preparedness training in teacher education.
