The 20th International Conference in the “Humanistic Ecology” series was held in Chișinău on 11–12 September 2026. The anniversary conference was entitled Ecological Challenges in the 21st Century: Between Nature and Society – Interdisciplinary Reflections on Environmental Crisis. The event was hosted by the “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University of Chișinău, while the Department of Ecophilosophy at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw served as the academic coordinator.
The scale of the conference confirmed its international character. The program included 82 papers prepared by 102 authors and co-authors representing 46 institutions and affiliated units from 18 countries. The presentations addressed environmental philosophy and ethics, environmental education, sustainable development, and the social, cultural, and technological dimensions of the contemporary environmental crisis.
The academic community associated with Studia Ecologiae et Bioethicae was actively involved in both the preparation of the conference and its academic program. This close connection reflects a shared academic background. SEeB and the “Humanistic Ecology” conference series are initiatives developed by the academic community of the Chair in Ecophilosophy at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, Poland. Both are based on a similar understanding of the contemporary environmental crisis as a complex challenge that concerns not only nature and technology, but also human beings, values, culture, and society. The profile of the conference therefore aligns closely with the journal's scope and brings together researchers who share similar approaches to environmental issues.
Selected papers presented at the conference may be submitted to Studia Ecologiae et Bioethicae. They may be published in the journal after completing its standard editorial and peer-review process.
