Abstract

The article concerns the accounts of Polish journeys in the 18th century, especially those fragments assosiated with the sanctuaries in Padua. Its aim is to attempt to establish and present the image of the speaking person in selected notes. Therefore it contains an analysis of these descriptions, in terms of structure and content, as well as the attitudes of travelers in sacred spaces. As can be seen from the notes, their authors described their visit in two basilicas – St. Anthony and St. Justine. They mentioned the architecture, interior elements and decorations, and even valuable collections (e.g. relics, votive offerings, liturgical equipment and works of art). They also wrote down their personal observations, impressions and opinions. Moreover they became the narrator as a bystander, sometimes he presented their emotions or addressed to the recipient-the reader.
