Abstract

The subject of the source edition is the inventory of the chapel of St. Casimir at the Vilnius cathedral from 1653, which is a copy of a document drawn up in 1651. This document is kept in the division of the Lietuvos mokslų akademijos Vrublevskių library in Vilnius. The source illustrates the wealth of the treasury of the holy prince's chapel just before it was dispersed or partially destroyed as a result of the war with Moscow (1654-1667). A note added at the bottom of the text sheet in 1721 proves that this copy was apparently also used to determine treasury losses resulting from looting during the Third Northern War. In addition to the numerous foundations of kings Sigismund III, Władysław IV and their wives and John Casimir, there were also numerous donations from Lithuanian magnates associated with the royal court.
