Abstract

In the article, the doctrinal sources of Islam, i.e. the Quran, the Sunnah
and the life and activity of Muhammad (sira) are analyzed in order to show, among other things, the idea of caliphate, jihad and the attitude of Muslims to Christians and war. The Author’s reflection on the doctrinal content of Islam supports his hypothesis that the essence of the ideology of the Islamic State should be defined as Islamic despite the fact that it is often based on a selective, even exclusionary, approach to the doctrine of Islam, theology and historical events related to Islam.
