Abstract

The emergence of consumption in young people’s lives is a result of the development and impact of postmodern society and its derivative, the consumer society. The formation of a consumerist identity results in the constant insatiability of a person’s awakened consumer needs. Supporting young people in the process of identity formation can prevent this threat. Adults can accomplish this task, for instance, by providing optimal conditions for proper, multidimensional development in childhood and youth. The author aims to discuss the dilemmas of shaping young people’s identity in the context of consumerism (based on a literature review). The results of the analysis clearly indicate a need to take the problem. The text emphasizes the pedagogical aspect of activities which support young people in the process of identity formation.
