The Image of a Catechist in the Preventive System of St. John Bosco

Abstract

In contemporary catechetical and pastoral literature, the picture of catechist as educator, guide and friend of pupils. A reference to alia can rarely be found his spiritual paternity, probably from the cause of the fear of assuming attitudes of domination and paternalism. Instead in the pedagogical tradition of the Salesians the idea of „educator-father” . Don Bosco himself creates his own image of father of the boys. Also there psychology emphasizes in the educational process the value of paternity, which plays the role of to stimulate the child's social and moral development. Mother's love is not enough for him integral development of the subject, needs to be completed by the love of the father. The idea of fatherhood is also present in the Bible, where God is presented as Father. Catechist therefore, that wants to be an authentic educator cannot ignore the value of paternity. If he understands it in consistently, is able to help his students especially in their socialization religious.
