Abstract

This article presents the Church Fathers' teaching on the Holy Spirit. The first synthesis of theological reflection on the Holy Spirit takes place in the apostolic Creed: “We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is Lord and gives life proceeds from the Father and the Son, who worships with the Father and the Son and will be glorified who spoke through the prophets”. Based on this version develops the original doctrine of the Holy Spirit in ancient Christianity. The Teaching on the Holy Spirit in its scientific meaning developed especially after the Council of Nicea. In the East form the theology of the Holy Spirit: Athanasius von Alexandria, Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzus, and in the West: Hilarius of Poitiers, Ambrose of Milan and Augustine of Hippona. The article maintains the patristic idea on the subject the specifics of the Holy Spirit, the effect of the Spirit in the Sacraments and the Validity of the Spirit in Christian Prayer.
