The Bell in European Tradition and Culture

Abstract

The bell, its shape and sound, is one of the symbols representing the history of European synthesize culture. The Occidental Bell is a strange wondrous thing. An archaic heritage has melted into it, a specifically Christian element and then that Highly rational and highly political, which is part of the essence of old Europe. The bell, in the circle of European culture, became the bearer of the symbolic meaning associated with the idea of Victory of Good, Divine Providence, Sanctity of Time, Death and "Vanitas" and of the monument.
