Salesian Novitiate in Czerwińsk 1924-1994

Abstract

Czerwińsk on the Vistula, now a village on the Warsaw – Płock route, formerly one Abbey of the regular canons (1155-1819) and an episcopal and monastic town. From her then Glory is only a Romanesque church of XII. Century preserved and also a first Monastery rebuilt in our century. In November 1923 Bishop of Płock A. J. Nowowiejski handed over the parish church – Czerwińsk to the Salesians with a beneficence. Salesians have for a long time been looking for such a regular place suitable for the novitiate. Czerwińsk had all the trump cards that favored the formation and intellectual development of young people have. These included, first of all: Marian sanctuary, beauty of church architecture, malarian Location on a magnificent hill on the Vistula, with a beautiful view of the river and Kampinosur Forest. On May 6, 1924 in Turin, the general superior, Rev. Filip Finaldi, issued a decree by virtue of which a novitiate house was established in Czerwińsk. Already on 24 XI are the first Novices from Klecza Dolna came here with Fr. J. Michalak and clerics - assistants A. Baraniak. Since that time, candidates for the Order have undergone a year-long formation and immediately afterwards took the first religious vows. During World War II (1939–45) the novitiate was fragmented and the Germans have only two priests and a few friars let stay in place. Her task was to look after the parish church and to work in of agriculture. The Salesian monastery complex has saved itself from the destruction of war, but was precisely robbed by German soldiers. From February 1945 to August 1952 the Salesians in Czerwińsk ran a children's home for the Warsaw residents orphans led. Only from 17 IX 1945 did 13 candidates, led by Pf. H. Piksa started a novitiate formation. Only in years 1965-1972 was the novitiate in Kutno - Woźniaków. At present, besides the novices of the province of St. Kostka, his die are also beginning Candidates from the countries of the former Soviet Union.
