Abstract

Nestor Kuzmich has permanently entered the history of the Orthodox Church in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The clergyman was one of the initiators of establishing the Zabludov printing house. Thanks to the protection of the Khodkievich and Sapieha families, Nestor Kuzmich became a protopope of Zabludov and Grodno. He was the confessor of Hrehor Chodkiewicz and Paweł Sapieha. In the 1690s, Nestor Kuźmicz participated in councils where important matters of the Orthodox Church were discussed. The synod of 1591 appointed him a reviewer of church books. The appointment of Nestor Kuzmich as a censor of printed books confirms his great competence and broad knowledge in the field of theology and church legislation. On the initiative of Nestor Kuzmich, protopopes were granted the power of staffing parishes and exercising jurisdiction over the clergy.
