Abstract

The main goal of this article is to present the thought of Tadeusz Styczeń, a Polish ethicist and theologian, on love among human beings. The attention is focused on the dimension of love between a man and a woman as a sincere gift of oneself to a beloved person by showing the relationship between ‘me’ of the person who loves, and ‘you’ of the person who is loved. Moreover, the article attempts to present love between a man and a woman as affirmation of the person one loves, as expressed in the statement: `It is so good you exist!’. The role and meaning of the human body is also discussed as it is the language in which a person can express his/her dedication to the loved one to the fullest. In this context, the relationship between ‘me’ and the body of the person who loves is also found significant. The special care is also given to the meaning of the sign of the body, which Styczeń presents as an image of the human ‘me’. In this context, the uniqueness of human existence is portrayed against the created world. It was pointed out that the individual ‘me’ expresses itself the most effectively by action, which becomes a method for looking into a human soul. This action is possible thanks to the human body, which evolves into the language of interpersonal communication. And finally, it is shown how important is the part which a human face plays in this process of communication. .
