Abstract

Even if the integration of distributed cognition with mechanistic conceptions of explanation can be seen as an interesting move and, if successful, leading to a non-trivial extension of cognitive science research, from the perspective of a distributed cognition theorist, the move should be seen as risky. In the paper, arguing against the proposal of Witold Wachowski (2022), I will try to outline the risks that the aforementioned integration entails and propose an alternative solution, which consists in combining distributed cognition with network theory. This theory (in my opinion) allows for a more fruitful study of patterns of distributed cognition.
