In their latest book Ethics and the Problem of the Subject [Etyka a problem podmiotu], Piotr Duchliński, Andrzej Kobyliński, Ryszard Moń and Ewa Podrez address the issues of the subject and subjectivity from an ethical perspective. Thus, they take part in the philosophical dispute over subjectivity, which they recognize as the basis of many contemporary cultural problems. As representatives of Christian philosophy, they express their opposition to any attempts to weaken the category of the subject in ethics, but in order to initiate a dialogue with representatives of other philosophical trends, they attempt to formulate the concept of strong subjectivity without reference to metaphysical categories. In the four chapters of the reviewed monograph, the authors draw attention to such aspects of subjectivity as rationality, narrativity, autonomy, integrity and authenticity, and analyze both strong and weak concepts of subjectivity. This enables them to present the dispute over subjectivity as a fundamental debate of our times, having not only ethical implications, but also bioethical, legal and social consequences, which sometimes are more difficult to predict The diversity and richness of the issues discussed encourage readers to confront the position taken by the authors and engage in substantive discussion with it.
