Youth subcultures in the context of marginalization of urban space. Strategies for the prevention of social exclusion on the example of functioning of the hip-hop subculture in Warsaw

Abstract

Following article is focused on analysis of correlations between the concepts of youth subcultures, margina-lization of urban space and social exclusion in the range of author’s analytical point of view and empirical research. The article contains the accentuation of definitional and theoretical proposals and presentation of application of research results in the field of third sector. Youth subcultures are the result of the process of marginalization of the urban space and also potential factor of the development of the marginalization and reduction of its range. In this context was emphasized the aspect of developmental and readaptational potential of subcultures. There was developed the category of alternative contestation subcultures according to research results of qualitative field research of Warsaw hip-hop subculture, determinations and individual motivations of entry into the structures of Warsaw hip-hop subculture, content analysis of lyrics. Then, on the base on explanatory model of Warsaw hip-hop subculture was created the model of strategy of prevention of social exclusion. The results of application of research results in the field of Youth Club “Alternatywa” were based on SNA tools. The article contains also recommendations for the sectors interested in developing and institutionalization of subcultural potential of the prevention of social exclusion.
