This article was inspired by a plan to have panel of experts speak on the state of evaluation in the business community in Poland. The panel was planned to be part of the First National Congress on Evaluation. However, this discussion did not take place because of difficulties which initially seemed to be organiza-tional, i.e. our inability to find a sufficient number of panellists. In time and as a result of discussions with business representatives about evaluation, it turned out that the root of the problem is much deeper. This led to a series of questions about the obstacles that we are facing in our country in developing a culture of evaluation, especially in the business sector. The lack of a transfer of evaluative thinking and competence by international corporations with branches in countries having a long tradition of evaluation is particularly surprising. Therefore, it is worth considering who should be promoting the use of evaluation in the business sector in Poland.
