Kinga Lendzion

Abstract

In Madagascar some of the children in primary school age are still not enrolled in school. Moreover, among those who managed to begin, only a few percent reach the secondary-level of education. There are many reasons that cause this situation. In addition to the poverty, one of the reasons is the unwillingness of parents to the school education of their children. However, more and more of Malagasy parents perceive formal education as priority, which, in the future will enable upward social mobility of their children. In this article, the author presents the results of her own research carried out in June 2016. The study was conducted on a group of 144 high school graduates from three high schools in Miandrivazo in Madagascar. This paper is an attempt to analyze the socio-economic status of parents and the forms of assistance provided by them to highschool students.
