Abstract

This article examines the relationship between environmental aesthetics, productivity, and human–environment interaction from the perspective of environmental philosophy and environmental ethics. It argues that aesthetic value plays an important role in shaping how individuals and societies perceive, use, and respond to the natural environment. When nature is experienced as beautiful, meaningful, and worthy of care, aesthetic appreciation can encourage environmental stewardship, sustainability, and more responsible patterns of conduct. At the same time, productivity influences the environment through the use of natural resources, the organization of labour, and the management of land, capital, and entrepreneurship. The paper therefore explores the double relationship between aesthetics and productivity, showing that productive activities may either support environmental well-being or intensify ecological degradation, depending on the values that guide them. By combining environmental aesthetics with a broader reflection on production and sustainability, the study argues that aesthetic awareness should not be treated as secondary or decorative, but as a significant factor in environmental education, environmental management, and the pursuit of sustainable development. In this way, aesthetic value can help orient productive action toward both ecological responsibility and long-term human flourishing.
