Abstract

The article examines the cosmic dimension of salvation in the eschatology of Sergius Bulgakov, presenting it as an integral component of his theology of creation, Christology, and pneumatology. It argues that Bulgakov’s understanding of salvation transcends individual soteriology and encompasses the whole cosmos, conceived as a reality called to paschal transformation and deification. Particular attention is given to the relationship between Christ’s Pascha and the history of the world, the problem of created freedom, and the tension between the hope for universal salvation and accusations of ontological determinism. The article also engages critically with the polemical reception of Bulgakov’s eschatology, especially the critiques articulated by Georges Florovsky and Vladimir Lossky, as well as with contemporary reassessments in patristic and systematic theology. The study concludes that apokatastasis in Bulgakov’s thought does not function as a doctrinal assertion but rather as an eschatological horizon of ecclesial hope, grounded in the liturgical experience of the Pascha and open to the drama of freedom and history.
