Abstract

The aim of the article is to reconstruct the key threads of the apologetic thought of Eugeniusz Tomaszewski, a professor from Wrocław. The first part presents his research on Christological issues. The second part is devoted to the issue of Kyrios, which E. Tomaszewski dealt with systematically. The third part presents his research on the issue of Jesus of history and Christ of faith. The analyses carried out allow for the following conclusions to be drawn. First, the person of Jesus Christ becomes understandable only in the light of his divinity and represents for man the highest value and reality that is able to satisfy his transcendent desires. Second, research on the title Kyrios indicates that its source is the Person of Jesus himself, not the original community. Third, the division into Jesus of history and Christ of faith is unknown to the texts of the New Testament. They show the synthesis of history and kerygma. For the early Christians, Jesus the preacher and Christ the preached are one and the same Person.
