Abstract

The aim of this article is to answer the question of why Warsaw apologeticians did not become fundamental theologians. First, the author presents the arguments of Wincenty Kwiatkowski, then Józef Myśków, and finally Tadeusz Gogolewski, who addressed the issue of the relationship between apologetics and fundamental theology. The analyses conducted allow for the following conclusions: Warsaw apologeticians did not become fundamental theologians because they practiced apologetics as an independent, non-theological, and religious study discipline. They pointed to the possibility of the parallel existence of both academic disciplines: apologetics within religious studies, and fundamental theology within theology. They questioned the possibilities of practicing apologetics after Vatican II, the influence of the Council’s teaching on the content of total apologetics, and the adequacy of their own methodological solutions.
