Abstract

Aware of the difficulties that today’s society and culture present for living a fulfilling married life, the Church has placed increasing emphasis on marriage preparation. In recent times, the need to accompany spouses during the first years of married life has also become evident. In this regard, the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life published a document in 2022 titled “Catechumenal Pathways for Married Life.” The text emphasizes that the fundamental point of reference—both for preparation and for this special accompaniment at the beginning of married life—must always be the very truth of the institution of marriage. Precisely in light of this reality, local churches are encouraged to develop formation programs suited to this specific pastoral accompaniment.
