Abstract

John Bosco was open to the contemporaneous pedagogical thought, cultural currents, and people of his time. He lived in a century of pedagogy, abounding in recognized names: Herbart, Pestalozzi, Froebel, Girard, and still remaining under the influence of the ideas formulated by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The contemporary Italy provided ground for such personalities as Aporti, Lambruschini, Rayneri, Rosmini, Tommaseo and Allievo. John Bosco combined the lasting values of tradition with new solutions to allow young people rise to the fullness of humanity. It is in this perspective that all the pedagogical theses outlined by A. Rosmini must be read: all that a man undertakes is to serve the good of the individual. The person is the goal of all human communities, initiatives, interests and organisations.
