Abstract

The article presents the influence of specific factors on the autonomy of adults with damaged hearing. The social functioning of people with hearing impairment is conditioned by internal and external factors. The time when the hearing damage occurred, its severity, rehabilitation, parents, school, work, starting oneâs own family, the socioeconomic status as well as leisure activities influence the realisation of specific goals in adult life. It must be noted that every person with hearing damage, even with a profound hearing loss, has a right to participate fully in social life. The hearing damage cannot be the reason to marginalise such persons in the society.
