Abstract

The theme traced in the title of the article will be an attempt to approach and analyze the norms of canon law concerning the function of the priest as confessor in the sacrament of penance. We will present only certain aspects in this material. We will emphasize that the confessor acts in persona Christi in support of the Ministry of the Church and in agreement with it (1). Then we focus on what results from this principle and what are other functions of the confessor. Then we will have in view the following questions: interrogation during confession (2), remission (3) or refusal of sacramental absolution (4), action of the confessor in the event of ecclesiastical censorship (5) and donation of absolution as act of justice in merciful love (6). The following questions-problems, in this order, are presented in our study.
