Abstract

The article is devoted to the outstanding figure of the Reverend Professor Marian Lewko (1936–2002) – an art historian, a literary scholar, an academic teacher at the Catholic University of Lublin and an expert in the field of theatre of exceptionally widespread interests. His most remarkable achievements are inextricably related to the reception of the Scandinavian drama in Poland exhibiting a close focus on Strinberg’s literary output, on different forms of religious drama and the history of Lublin Theatre. Most of the Reverend’s publications were centred on these issues and constituted contributing factors in further studies undertaken by his seminar participants. Not only was the Reverend Professor Lewko a highly regarded academic, but also a committed educator. Many students of the Catholic University of Lublin vividly remember him as a patient teacher whose most cherished ambition was to provide them with adequate spiritual and intellectual development.
He will be forever remembered as an indefatigable initiator of summer walking tours and a remarkable person graced with unprecedented sensitivity.
