Abstract

Sixty years have passed since the death of Janusz Korczak (1879–1942) in 2002. Despite of the time we note the continued interest in the thought and educational system of Janusz Korczak, one of the most significant educators in Poland of the period 1918–1939. The idea of the child in Korczak's thought is very clear and does not cause any problems, instead the question of his religion causes many problems. For some Korczak was an atheist, for others not believer. However, there are opinions that put Korczak and his religious behavior aside of mysticism. The present article tries to answer the above arguments basing on the texts of the Author. The child was to Him a mystery of God and a holy thing. With regard to religion, one can find that Korczak has surpassed the Jewish religion and the Catholic faith.
