The Beginning o f Salesian Activity in Pomorze Zachodnie, on the example o f Debrzno

Abstract

Debrzno is the village located in the western part of Poland, twenty kilometers from each other village Człuchów. At the beginning of the 14th century, this land was occupied by the Teutonic Knights. In 1354 they gave the beginning of the village. From the point of view of ecclesial structures. Debrzno belonged to the Archdiocese of Gniezno, the Diocese of Chełmno (1821–1923) and the „Free Prelature of Pila”. Since 1945 Debrzno belongs to the Apostolic Administration of Kamień di Lubusz and the Prelature of Piła. After the Second World War the Salesians began pastoral work in Pomorze Zakhodnie. They were two causes of the fact. The first was the appeal of Cardinal A. Hlond the primate of the Poland. The second referred to the policy of the communist regime, which limited the activity of religious. The religious were forced to stop their activities (schools, hospitals) and continue the his work in parishes. In 1952 r. Salesians have handed over to the diocese the chciesa a Gościkowo – Paradyż and pastoral work began in Debrzno on November 1st.
