Abstract

Prof. Jerzy Stefański, professor of liturgy at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, presents here the article under the title: „The Great Jubilee of the Year 2000: Historical-Liturgical Perspective”. The author begins with the historical chronology of the jubilees, to then move on to the theological reasons of the Great Jubilee 2000. In the following part of the article, the Professor presents the opening of the Year Jubilee and other celebrations established for the whole Church and for the local Churches. In the end, D.Stefański says: „The jubilee is not necessary for the Church but for the world, because the Church is not it celebrates "itself"... The world without the Church would be worse".
