Abstract

The problems of personality appear here as the main question of the contemporary psychology. In the research on personality the common mechanisms o f its functioning are searched. In this article the theories on personality are presented in which the notion of the characteristic seems to be essential. In these theories (J. P. Guilford, R. B. Cattell, H. J. Eysenck, G. W Allport) the structure of personality is formed by the total sum o f characteristics, where a characteristic is understood as a synthesis of some behaviours.
