Throughout the centuries, the catechesis of children and young people was done exclusively at school. But after the Second Vatican Council, it was placed in the new socio-cultural context and the emphasis is on catechesis in the family/catechesis for adults. The important role in the origin and development of the catechesis familiare belongs to "Lumen vitae" (the International Institute catechesis and pastoral) in Brussels, Belgium. Initiatives in the field of family catechesis take place in Italy where it has been published many periodicals for use by parents such as: „Catechesi”, „Sussidi”, „Evangelizzare”. There are also many catechetical materials for family catechesis in England and in the United States: „Family Parish Religious Education", „Family Learning Teams", „Family (luster), Family Scripture Studies”. The Germanic countries develop the catechesis of the parents; we organize recycling for them to accompany their children as they prepare to receive a sacrament. On the European level, family catechesis is developing well in France. In 1979 appeared the „Reference text” which emphasizes the always important role of parents in catechesis. But he recognizes that parents, soberly devastated and bewildered by life, lack Christian respect and find it difficult to help children find their place in the Church. They need lifelong support. Church. They will find it in the “catechetical place” (Reference text, n 311). families find there a place where their questions can be asked. And the children discover, in contact of adults, a community of the Church. An entire organization is marketed to bring them the necessary support: „Animation team” - (composed of parents, catechists and a priest to ensure the general coordination), "Parents' Meetings" - (there the parents get to know with each other, find out what they need to do with their children, take stock of their own life of faith), the „Groupings of children” - (bringing together all the children of catechesis from the same parish), the "celebrations" - sacramental or not - (a highlight of the meeting parents - children with the animation team) finally „Documents and periodicals” which suggest parents the style and fashion of their participation. Family catechesis in France wants ensure the support of the Christian community where it takes root, it is the act of a community whole who wants to share his faith with children and their parents.
