Henryk Sienkiewicz Salesian College in Sokołów Podlaski - History and Upbringing

Abstract

In the northeastern part of Poland is the city of Sokołów Podlaski. In 1915 a priest together eon the local authorities have founded a gymnasium. After a few years after 1 'opening, the school has found in economic difficulties. The city authorities turned to the Salesian Congregation with the proposal to give the school under the management of the Salesians. From 1925 the gymnasium was under administration Salesian. During the Second World War 1939-1945 the Salesians suspended their activity. Immediately after the war they started the school activity, which lasted until 1948. In that year the communist government authorities closed the Salesian school. After the political changes in Poland in 1989, the law allowed schools to be opened private. The authorities of Sokołów have turned to the Salesians with an appeal to restart the activity scholastic-educational. In 1993 the Salesians of Sokołów received permission to open the new one classical high school.
