Orphanage in Rumia (1947-1960) - History and Upbringing

Abstract

In the north of Poland, near the Baltic Sea, there is a city Rumia. Salesians are arrived in that country in September 1937. The first work was of a rather than character parish. During the Second World War (1939-1945), Salesians were forced to leave his home and his job. They returned immediately after the end of the world war. As a result of the war, there were many abandoned and orphaned boys. Because of this .reason, in 1947, the Salesians opened the orphanage, in addition to the parish. In carrying out their work in this house, they followed the educational system, which has left us Don Bosco. The communist regime, having consolidated its power in Poland, has chin.so the orphanage in 1960. It is worth highlighting the fact that many parents, different people and even the local authorities defended the presence of the orphanage and the work of the children for a long time
Salesians. Despite of several efforts, Ministry of Education of Warsaw has succeeded of close and definitively liquidate the orphanage. The Salesians still have work in the parish.
