Polish Salesians on Missions in China and the Philippines. Prehistory

Abstract

This article, entitled ^ „The missionary work of the Polish Salesians in China and in the Filipinę” , in the first part recalls prehistory (the dreams of Dùn-Bosco of Asia) and the history of Salesian missions in China and in the Philippines. Why these two countries? Why are the Salesians expelled away from China by the communists in 1950 they continued the Salesian work in the Filipinę. There second part recalls the Polish Salesians, who worked in these two countries, giving their opinion small biographies: sac. Teodor Wieczorek (1888-1957; in China 1921-1957), ch. Franciszek Pyka (1891-1930; in China 1924-1927), Fr. Dr. Jan Siara (1887-1937; in China 1925-1932), co. Jan Urban (1891-1953; in China 1P26-1931), Fr. Jan Buchta (1906-1972; in China 1929-1954, and then in the Filipinę), sac. Wiktor Spinek (1900-1978; in China 1929-1932), sac. Wladyslaw Wieczorek (1903-1942; in China 1929-1932), co. Antoni Wróbel (*1908; in China 1934-1938), priest Marian Mielczarek (1907-1951; in China 1936 -1951), Fr. Tomasz Szeliga (*1915; in China 1936-1972), co. Paweł Prokopowicz (1910-1983; in China 1937-1957, in the Philippines 1957-1972), sac. Feliks Glowicki (*1931; in China 1957 and then in the Filipinę ), ch. Arkadiusz Mikucki (*1970, in Filipinę 1993-1994). In the third part we take a look at the merits of Polish missionaries in China and in the Filipinę: Fr Wieczorek for 23 years as treasurer of the Chinese province, for 3 years director of St. Louis School and parish priest of St. Anthony Church in Hong for 17 years, builder of seminary, of the church of St. Anthony in Hong Kong and other Salesian houses. Don Siara was for 3 years Vicar of the Bishop of Macau in the Heung Shan district, then first director of the seminary in Hong Kong. Don Buchta was first director of Yuet Wah in Macau and then director of the various ones Salesian works in the Filipinę, provincial councilor. Don Mielczarek, intelligent prefect in Macau and then in Hong Kong (during the war) he was director of the St. Joseph Institute in Shanghai. Don Szeliga during the war he worked tirelessly and fearlessly in the Shiu Chow Vicariate, where he has remained until 1953. Then he was administrator in the various Salesian houses in Hong Kong. .Now works in Canada. Co. Prokopowicz worked in China and then in the Philippines in administration and as a boss of the various workers. He taught Fingiese, knew Spanish, Chinese, Telugu, Russian, Italian. A intelligent and invaluable help from the directors and prefects of the Salesian works. Don Glowicki he worked for a time in China and after his priestly ordination in the Filipinę as director and then administrator in the various Salesian houses The Salesian work flourishes in the Filipinę. The goblet of missionary blood and sweat (Don Bosco's dream) in China is not yet filled ed the Chinese Salesians are waiting with hope for the day when they will enter China again continental.
