Abstract

Text is a review of the methodology of visual arts and the importance of visual arts activities for the overall development of young people with intellectual disabilities. Visual arts education is of great importance not only because of the exercise of disturbed functions, but it also allows for a bolder entry into the world of the able-bodied by showing the ability and possibility to be a perpetrator of socially accepted actions. Cultural and aesthetic development definitely raises the possibility to participate more fully in the life of the community and therefore has a positive impact on self-esteem and self-awareness. Specialists in special education, but also connoisseurs and patrons of the arts are increasingly paying attention to the creative possibilities of people with intellectual disabilities. Thus, the need to promote knowledge on this subject among both special educators and people who are not professionally involved with students with intellectual disabilities is still valid.
