Abstract

This paper is a theological reflection on the crisis of the present Catholic marriages in Poland. It starts with the description of the roots of this crisis and is aiming at some solutions which might be found in the doctrine of the Church, and which may help to overcome the present dilemmas. Their consequences influence the spiritual, moral, ethical, and social life. They also cause that more and more people choose the kind of life that only externally resembles marriage, however it is neither marriage nor something that realizes its essence. This is also the reason why many people do not fulfill their marital vocation what is particularly well seen in the case of the Catholics. The author presents certain factors that contribute to this situation. Their awarness may help pastoral efforts to overcome this crisis. Among them the author enumerates the influence of liberal concept of man as well as new ideas linked to ontology rather than to the classic metaphysics (even if not everybody understands this problem), some deficiencies in Christian education and upbringing. He thinks that the best solution to the present crisis of marriage might be a return to the teaching  of Pope John Paul II about marriage and family (of which the Catholic Church is proud).
