Abstract

The aim of the article is to analyse the ecclesiastical part of the law revision committees established in 1589 and 1601 with particular attention to the deputies’ age, education, legal expertise, and political experience.  The study leads to the conclusion that they were generally well qualified for their task. Some of the deputies possessed formal legal education, while the commissions included individuals with extensive practical experience in the application of both canon law and the law of the land.
