Abstract

The International Theological Commission published a document for the anniversary of the Council of Nicaea in a 2025, in which it considers the contemporary relevance of the Christological dogma and interprets the Council's decisions and the event itself from the perspective of credibility. This text therefore serves as a basis for interpreting Nicaea from the viewpoint of fundamental theology. The article analyses the latest publication of the Commission within the context of the theological problem of credibility and offers a critical discussion with the approach to the issue presented in the document. The aim is to evaluate the Commission’s contribution to the theology of credibility, its connection with current trends in the fundamental theology, and ongoing discussions regarding the Council itself. Finally, the article proposes possible further developments of the themes of credibility and the Council of Nicaea, addressing matters not explicitly mentioned in the document and utilizing a contemporary theological approach to the topic.
