The article presents a historical and pedagogical analysis of the educational and caregiving activities of Theodor Zöckler – a German theologian, educator, and social activist who worked in Galicia for more than half a century. The study highlights the socio-historical conditions of educational and welfare institutions in the region at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, including the challenges of access to schooling for children and youth, as well as care for orphans and impoverished families. Particular attention is given to Zöckler’s contribution to the establishment and development of Protestant schools, child and youth institutions, and the implementation of the principles of diaconia as a form of social-pedagogical service. The article emphasizes the integration of educational, spiritual, and social-care components in his work, which resulted in a comprehensive model of social pedagogy relevant both for historical research and contemporary pedagogical practice. It is concluded that Zöckler’s experience remains valuable today, demonstrating the integration of educational and caregiving functions in the context of broader social transformations.
