Journal history


The “Artifex Novus” journal was established in 2016 on the initiative of employees of the Institute of Art History of UKSW. It is issued as an annual. The first issue of the journal was published in 2017. From the beginning, the editorial work is managed by PhD hab. Katarzyna Chrudzimska-Uhera, professor at the university, and individual issues have editors in charge.

The publisher of the journal is the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University Publishing House.

Purpose of the journal


The objectives pursued by the “Artifex Novus” journal include conducting and coordinating research in the field of history of old and contemporary art, including through the exchange of research results on the national and international arena, as well as the dissemination of research work carried out by employees of the Institute of Art History of UKSW.

Thematic and geographical scope


“Artifex Novus” is a nationwide journal which deals with various problems, focusing primarily on Polish old and contemporary art, covering the present and former lands of the Republic of Poland.


Type of texts to be published


The journal publishes original scientific articles, reviews, conference reports and other communications related to the Institute’s activities.

 

Publication language


“Artifex Novus” publishes texts in Polish and conference languages.

 

Who can publish in the journal?


“Artifex Novus” is addressed primarily to art historians and researchers in the field of humanities as well as exact and technical sciences, who deal with broadly understood art (painting, sculpture, architecture, artistic craftsmanship, graphics, drawing, etc.), iconography, museology, art market, conservation and didactics in the field of art history.

 

Reviewing procedure


In order to maintain a high substantive level of the journal, all submitted articles are subject to a double-blind peer review procedure. (more)

 

Open access policy


The publishing policy of the editorial office of the “Artifex Novus” journal based on the Libre Open Access standard. This means that all articles published in the journal are publicly available, i.e. they are available immediately and free of charge for reading, downloading and sharing, and their posting and use does not require obtaining permission from the author or publisher each time, provided that the rights to use the licensed work are retained.

 

Copyright policy


The authors of articles published in “Artifex Novus” retain their copyrights under the terms of the Creative Commons CC BY-ND 4.0 license, which allows copying, distribution and displaying only exact copies of the work, without the possibility of changing and creating modified content based on it, as well as using them for commercial purposes, i.e. for any profit purposes.

 

Editor fees policy


Authors of articles published in “Artifex Novus” do not incur any costs related to the publication of their articles, i.e. article processing fcharges (APCs), editorial fees, membership fees, printing subscription costs, other additional fees. Authors do not receive any financial gratification for published materials.

 

Advertising policy


The journal does not publish advertisements. In the case of issues published with the financial support of external sponsors, appropriate information and a logotype are placed in the journal, and in the paper version it is possible to place the sponsor’s advertising information.

 

Archiving policy


Electronic files with articles published in „Artifex Novus” are archived long-term in the Digital Repository of the National Library (Polona website) or Sherpa/ Romeo.

 

Deposit policy


The policy regarding the deposit of different versions of materials sent to the editorial office of the “Artifex Novus” journal is as follows: the authors may, without any restrictions, deposit: 1) the submitted, 2) accepted and 3) published version of their articles in the institutional or other repositories of their choice. The deposit policy is registered on the “Bridge of Knowledge” (Most Wiedzy) website (click here).
