Abstract

The article presents preliminary findings of a study on the complex of buildings belonging to the provostry of the Lateran Canons Regular at Żdżary, near Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą. Founded at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, the provostry existed until the early 19th century. For over two hundred years, it played important social and cultural roles in the region where it operated. However, until now, it has not been the subject of a separate and comprehensive historical study. As part of the latest research on the Canons Regular in Poland, the author decided to explore the history of this centre, resulting in the text submitted for publication. Knowledge about the complex of convent buildings of the Żdżary provostry will undoubtedly be useful in broader research on the history of Mazovia and its religious culture.
